I enjoyed them both for different reasons, and learnt a lot at both. I found TBE12 much more welcoming and less dominated by a handful of bloggers who seemed to be seen more as the “A” team, TBE felt more inclusive and interested in all levels and points of views….. I came away having spoken to and having met more people – even though a smaller event..!!

I think you would have enjoyed the Travel Blogger Elevator, Laurel. There was a nice mingling between local and international travel bloggers and experts, meaning an interesting exchange.

I look forward to meeting you as well, Gary. As far as I know, there will be around 100 people at TBE, less than at TBEX which, in my opinion, is better as it allows better contacts (there were people at TBEX that I didn’t even manage to meet).

On the other hand, I don’t think that the point is focusing on Europe (there are speakers coming from the USA as well) and making ‘continental’ distinctions. It’s more a matter of sharing different experiences and approaches, trying to get the best from the excellences that one can found in each country/continent.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. It’s interesting to get to know about the Travel Bloggers Conference in Malaysia and I’m glad to read that there was a good mix between different perspectives and experiences. We also are often too much concentrated on Europe and the USA, forgetting other continents where there are great examples of excellent travel blogging (and I have a few friends whose excellent work I follow regularly!)

Looking forward to TBE12 this coming week. Hoping, like you, that it is focused on Europe overall and celebrating and exploring what makes travel bloggers and blogging in and from Europe different and distinctive. I have only been to one travel blogger event so far (TBEX Girona) and learnt a lot and got a better feel for how the “business” of travel blogging is developing. I have been blogging since 2005, but never went to events etc. There are a lot of events now, as you say, and I think the key will be for events to find what they do that is unique. The topics seem really good – and so will see. Hope to get to meet you there. How many people attend? There were a lot at TBEX!

Haven’t had the chance to attend any TBEX or TBU to date but I do agree that ideally it should be that way, i.e. local bloggers should be invited to play a major role as well. I attended the first Malaysia International Travel Bloggers Conference (#MITBC) last May and found the speakers to be well balanced in terms of local vs. international and that gave us the chance to learn more from different perspectives.
